Our Poem: Only Ashes

I melted away my foundation just yesterday
with the hope and anticipation that the mistakes can’t stay
how would they?
I realized how static I’ve become at my young age, prattling and prying away at meaningless activities
wasting the talent I could break into if given enough chances

too many other silhouettes around seem not to notice the merciless persistence of life
calmly sacrifices your years in a gust of time
any support you thought would always be around disappear
leaving you naked body frankly trying to do something, anything at all to make this journey worth it
so we burned the fears that made our progress forfeit

for those who fear stepping into this light
ask yourself if you died today, would the sacrifices you made be worth this fight?
these voices might keep you up at night
and you might feel bitter, scared, and full of spite
at even the acknowledgement of any slacking we both are guilty of at times

please continue living your life full of light
because there will come a day when your trapped in the night
with muffled shadows that you can’t fight
when your final time arrived
